Seasons Hospice to Host Pioneer of Jewish Hospice

MIAMI (October 31, 2014) - Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care will be celebrating the beginning of their Kavod haNefesh program by featuring nationally recognized innovator and visionary pioneer of Jewish Hospice, Rabbi E.B. “Bunny” Freedman as he presents “Jewish Issues in End of Life Care: Healing Conversation and Practices.”

Seasons Hospice is excited to serve the Jewish community and understands there are many levels of religious observance. Through Kavod haNefesh (Honor of the Soul) they strive to honor the cultural values of their Jewish patients and their family members. Each member of their care team has received training and education about the full spectrum of Judaism, including its practices, laws, traditions and values.

At the event, Rabbi Freedman and an expert interdisciplinary panel will explore the Jewish view of the ministry of presence, discern what every patient wants and needs, and apply patient centered spiritual care as they engage in meaningful, healing conversations about Jewish End of Life issues. Rabbi Bunny Freedman is the Founding Director of Jewish Hospice & Chaplaincy Network. He received Rabbinic Ordination (Doctorate of Divinity) from Beth Medrash Govoha in 1974. In 1991, Rabbi Freedman created the Jewish Hospice Services Program for Hospice of Michigan. He was then recruited by members of the community to organize the Jewish Hospice and Chaplaincy Network. Rabbi Freedman is the Executive Director of JHCN focusing on community relations, fundraising and staff development.

“Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care has been servicing the Jewish population in Miami since our inception,” said Executive Director, Pedro DelCampo. “We have always recognized the specific cultural and spiritual needs of the community and have developed our program, Kavod  haNefesh, to educate our patient care staff to provide services with the highest level of sensitivity. Now, with the introduction of Kavod to the Jewish community, we hope to be able to continue to meet their needs, honoring culture and tradition in the most respectful manner.”

Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care will be hosting Rabbi Freedman for three days. The event will be from 5:00-7:30 p.m. each day beginning with a kosher dinner buffet followed by the program. Please choose which day you would like to attend.
