Free Bereavement Camp for Grieving Children

Camp Kangaroo is a free camp experience and a supportive atmosphere for children who have experienced a loss of a loved one. Ages 5-13

Location: Located in Glenview, The Grove is a wonderful natural park with many historical, education, and environmental opportunities that when blended together in a camp setting will set the stage for learning, healing, having fun and making new friends. http://glenviewparks.org/index.php/facilities-parks/the-grove/

Staff: Camp staffers will be made up of Seasons Hospice staff and volunteers, led by world renowned Dr. Russell Hilliard PhD, LCSW, MT-BC the preeminent expert, published academic and well known author in grief and bereavement. Staff will include trained social workers, music therapists, chaplains, specialized bereavement volunteers, and bereavement counselors.

Date: Camp will take place August 6th-10th 2012 from 9a.m. until 3p.m. This includes a snack and lunch.

Cost: FREE…Thanks to the generous support of FGMK, a progressive Chicago certified public accounting and advisory firm passionately dedicated to kids and communities in the Chicago land area.

Transportation: Transportation will be from Seasons Hospice & Palliative care sites. Our Pick-up and drop-off sites are: Seasons Hospice & Palliative Care office locations in Burr Ridge and Des Plaines and our inpatient units at Vanguard Weiss Hospital, Holy Cross Hospital, and Westlake Hospital. Who should attend: Kids ages 5-13 and have experienced a loss in the last 2 years. Since all kids grieve differently at different times, children may be on different levels of the bereavement process. Upon completion of the attached registration form, one of our staff will contact you to complete a grief inventory that will help our staff to meet each individual campers needs.
